Future State and Federal Consumer Privacy Acts - How Does this Affect Wisconsin GCs?

2021 ACC-WI Annual Conference

The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act (CDPA), and Colorado Privacy Act (CPA) are game shifting United States privacy regulations that bring some of the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation to the U.S. As more states consider their own comprehensive consumer data privacy bills, and the limited likelihood that a federal privacy law will pass in the foreseeable future, differing requirements from state to state will continue to complicate organizations’ privacy compliance efforts. Even if your organization does not operate out of California, Virginia, or Colorado, you will likely still have to comply with these acts if you do business or have employees in these states. In this ACC-Wisconsin Annual Meeting session, Michael Best Partner Guy Sereff and Tiff’s Treats General Counsel Ashley Fischer will advise on how companies should start mapping out their compliance plan now.
