Is This For Real? Tools for Managers Conversing with Employees about FMLA Leave and ADA Accommodations as We Approach a Post-Pandemic World

Illinois Public Employer Labor Relations Association

The FMLA and the ADA impose significant requirements on employers (and their supervisors) to properly respond to employee requests for medical leaves of absence or other workplace accommodations. If not complicated enough already, the COVID 19 pandemic has generated a surge of unique requests from employees and additional compliance obligations. In this interactive session of the 42nd Annual IPELRA Training Conference, Senior Counsel Leigh Jeter provides updated information about leave and accommodation requirements.

Topics covered will include:

  • How to identify when an employee is requesting leave or another accommodation
  • What to say or not say when an employee requests leave or another accommodation
  • What to do when the employee’s leave or accommodation request is unreasonable or extends for an unreasonable period of time
