DSO, MSO, PE: What It Means For NC

North Carolina currently does not allow the corporate ownership of dental practices. However, it is clear that the market is changing and dentists are constantly bombarded with information about dental service organizations (DSOs) and corporate practices. At the same time, they are hearing about the involvement of private equity (PE) and venture capital (VC) in the dental space. Join Michael Best attorney, Carrie Meigs, and Old Well Consulting principal, Sean Kurdys, as they discuss with Lane & Associates Family Dentistry Chief Clinical Officer and NC State Board of Dental Examiners* board member, Dr. Raleigh Wright III, the roles that these various concepts and entities are and will play in the evolving market.

Questions we will address:

  1. Are DSOs and corporate practices currently operating in North Carolina? Will they likely be in the future? What protections do independent practice owners have from competition by these entities?
  2. What role can private equity and venture capital have in the dental market?
  3. What are the implications of PE and VC for owners of dental practices or for dentists considering ownership?
  4. What does the concept of consolidation mean in the dental market?
  5. How can dentists posture themselves for success in the changing market?
