The U.S.' biggest LGBTQ advocacy organization gave many of the country's largest law firms high or perfect scores for LGBTQ diversity and inclusion efforts in the latest edition of its annual corporate accountability report, released on Thursday.
In the 19th edition of the Corporate Equality Index, the Human Rights Campaign gave 135 of 166 surveyed law firms perfect scores out of 100. They were designated, along with a record-setting 632 other companies across industries, as the best places to work for LGBTQ equality in the U.S.
Two hundred of the nation's top firms were invited to provide data for the survey. Law firms, as an industry category, received the largest number of perfect scores compared to other industries, according to Beck Bailey, who leads the Human Rights Campaign's workplace equality program.
The Human Rights Campaign based its ratings on companies' performance in four areas: widely applied nondiscrimination policies, equitable benefits for LGBTQ employees and their families, cultivation of an inclusive culture, and strong corporate social responsibility practices.
