Yesterday, the state lost an iconic leader, Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Shirley Abrahamson. As the first woman to serve on the Wisconsin Supreme Court, the longest-serving justice in state history, and the first female to serve as chief justice, Abrahamson broke barriers and paved the way for future generations of women in law. Serving as a justice for more than four decades, including nearly 20 years as chief justice, Abrahamson set the tone of what it meant to be a public servant in every sense of the word. We send Chief Justice Abrahamson’s family our deepest condolences. Her legacy will forever live on as a trailblazer for women, and we thank her for her service and dedication to our great state.
