Workplace Safety and Health Issues in the Age of COVID-19

ABA's 14th Annual Labor & Employment Law Conference

Like the COVID-19 virus itself, novel legal issues regarding workplace health and safety arise and change almost daily. This panel includes a discussion of OSHA regulations and guidance that apply to COVID-19, enforcement trends with respect to unsafe work conditions and whistleblower retaliation complaints related to COVID-19, and lawsuits asserting the public nuisance doctrine. Panelists also discuss state efforts in California and New York, and how they have addressed workplace violence stemming from customers who have refused to comply with face covering rules and other COVID-19 safety measures.

Panelists:

  • Brian Broecker, U.S. Department of Labor, Washington, DC
  • Darren Cohen, Assistant Counsel to Governor Andrew Cuomo for Labor and Workforce Development, New York, NY
  • Carmen Comsti, California Nurses Association, Oakland, CA
  • Denise Greathouse, Michael Best, Milwaukee, WI
