Michael Best is pleased to announce Michelle E. Kouba has been named as one of the 2020 Notable Women in the Law by Crain’s Chicago Business. The list celebrates 124 women lawyers from across the Chicago area who have demonstrated professional distinction, involvement in their community, and a commitment to mentoring other women lawyers.

Kouba is a partner in the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group providing strategic global trademark and copyright counsel. Managing a diverse practice spanning various industries, Kouba helps her clients build their intellectual property portfolios while providing actionable advice on brand management. Leveraging her enforcement experience, she regularly advises clients on protecting their intellectual property against infringement, including counterfeit and gray market products, in key jurisdictions and across e-commerce and social media platforms.
Outside of her robust legal practice, Kouba plays a vital role in actively training and mentoring other attorneys to help develop their capabilities and foster personal and professional growth. Additionally, Kouba sits on the firm’s Diversity Action Committee and is a member of Michael Best’s Women’s Development Group. She currently serves as a board member for CannedWater4Kids, a 501c3 non-profit charity focused on bringing clean, safe water to children worldwide. In addition to her role on the board, Kouba provides pro bono services to the organization.
Beyond her civic contributions, Kouba serves on the Intellectual Property Owners Association’s (IPO) Anti-Counterfeiting Committee and is a member of the International Trademark Association (INTA).
