From artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to autonomous vehicles, virtual reality, and cryptocurrency, the rapid evolution of technology shows no sign of slowing down. Fresh water is becoming a scarce resource in the United States and across the globe as demand continues to rise due to population and business growth. This emergent scarcity means businesses will face more consequences of the complex regulatory and legal frameworks governing water use and water quality.
Michael Best’s Water team understands those issues. We guide clients through the heavily regulated, politically sensitive environment surrounding the management of, investment in, and development of water resources.
All businesses have to comply with government regulations—some more so than others. Our Regulatory practice is designed to serve clients in heavily regulated industries, such as manufacturing and utility services, as well as across various industries in regulated areas that impact business as a whole, such as environmental regulation.

The public's expectations of privacy are evolving in response to the rapid uptick in personal data breaches. More states are adopting privacy regulations in order to protect the personally identifiable information of their residents. For example, the California Consumer Privacy Act which goes into effect on January 1, 2020, expands on California data privacy laws to effectively produce the most comprehensive data use legislation in the United States, granting residents increased control over their data. Numerous copycat bills have emerged across other states, with minor nuances in each. During this session, panelists will discuss steps to implement a responsible regulatory privacy program and address the challenges of the evolving regulatory landscape.
Clients benefit from Elizabeth’s extensive experience with a variety of regulatory, cybersecurity compliance, and technology-specific privacy matters. A former Chief Privacy Officer and General Counsel, she brings a unique and informed in-house perspective to her practice.
