Fresh water is becoming a scarce resource in the United States and across the globe as demand continues to rise due to population and business growth. This emergent scarcity means businesses will face more consequences of the complex regulatory and legal frameworks governing water use and water quality.
Michael Best’s Water team understands those issues. We guide clients through the heavily regulated, politically sensitive environment surrounding the management of, investment in, and development of water resources.

Michael Best & Friedrich LLP has bolstered its litigation practice with the addition of a patent law professor at Campbell University whose latest research focuses on how technology like 3D printing impacts the legal industry, the firm has announced. Lucas Osborn joined Michael Best’s Raleigh, North Carolina, office as of counsel earlier this week, the firm said in a Feb. 18 press release. Osborn is currently an associate professor at Campbell University’s Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law and will remain in his role full-time while handling patent law and intellectual property-related matters at the firm, according to the release. Osborn told Law360 on Friday that he was drawn to the opportunity to “maintain his legal practice skills” at a firm that was interested in moving into new technology spaces, such as blockchain and 3D printing.
