Michael Best is pleased to announce that Leah Hurtgen Ziemba has been included among In Business magazine’s 40 Under 40 list. The annual program recognizes young Madison-area professionals who are thriving in their field and making noteworthy contributions to the community through volunteer work and public service.
Ziemba serves as a partner and co-chair of the firm’s Agribusiness, Food & Beverage industry team and focuses on advising clients on environmental, food safety, and regulatory compliance issues. As a counselor, litigator and negotiator, Ziemba has successfully combined her subject matter expertise, experience, industry knowledge, and creativity to quickly become one of Madison’s known practitioners. Her work includes investigating, assessing, and remediating vapor intrusion issues at sites with historic solvent contamination, providing environmental liability assessments and risk management during transactional due diligence, implementing the Food Safety Modernization Act, and advising on food labeling matters. Ziemba also works to navigate local, county, and state environmental regulations to permit and build or expand manufacturing facilities and commercial dairy operations.
As a lawyer and a farmer, Ziemba provides her clients with unique support and strategy by blending these two professions. Clients value Ziemba’s deep industry ties, as well as personal connections, which allows her to identify ways to partner with colleagues, businesses, universities, non-profits, member organizations and clients in the Agribusiness, Food & Beverage industry.
Outside of Ziemba’s practice, she serves as a member of multiple boards including the Dairy Girl Network, and National Dairy Shrine. She is a member of Wisconsin Holstein Association and a mentor of Michael Best’s Women’s Development Group. Ziemba was also previously awarded the Empire State Counsel® honoree by the New York Bar Association. She earned her J.D., magna cum laude, from Syracuse University in 2006 and her B.S., magna cum laude, from Cornell University in 2001.
Ziemba will be recognized in March 2019 issue of In Business magazine and honored at a networking reception on March 6, 2019 at The Madison Club.
