Michael Best Partner Adrienne Ehrhardt was featured in Law360’s article, “Why In-House Attys Ditch The Corporate World For Law Firms” on November 30, 2018.
“After 10 years as an in-house lawyer, Adrienne Ehrhardt wasn’t actively searching for a law firm job, but the chance to shape the privacy and cybersecurity group of Michael Best & Friedrich LLP as its new chair was too good to ignore.
With firms looking to build up their cybersecurity offerings with experienced attorneys, Ehrhardt — a former associate general counsel at Lands’ End Inc. and lead attorney in privacy and data protection at insurance company CUNA Mutual Group — realized that environment would allow her to be more involved with her practice and become part of a broader conversation about data and cybersecurity.
“The opportunity to not just come back to law firm life, but really build an area in the practice group in the firm is what drew me in,” said Ehrhardt, who joined Michael Best in December 2016. “That was an exciting prospect in serving multiple clients, in building a group, in shaping what that’s going to look like.”
Ehrhardt isn’t alone in her thinking. Whether it’s a desire to expand their practice, work with a diverse client roster or even collaborate with lawyers in other practices, in-house lawyers decide to move on from the corporate world for various professional and personal reasons. And according to some legal industry experts and recruiters, more in-house lawyers seem to be taking firm jobs than ever before.”
