Madison, WI (September 24, 2018) – Michael Best is pleased to announce that Tanya M. Salman has been selected as the recipient for the community involvement award by the Association of Women Lawyers. Salman is an attorney in the Litigation Practice Group and is based out of the firm’s Madison office.
The award recognizes individuals who have made a difference within the legal community and the community at large including the following: to promote the welfare, interests and professional development of lawyers who are women; to promote the legal interests of women generally; to maintain the honor and integrity of the legal profession; to advance justice for all individuals.
Salman focuses her practice on commercial litigation in the banking and financial services industry. She represents clients in state and federal courts, as well as in arbitration and mediation proceedings, and has experience in a wide-array of complex business litigation matters, including disputes over contracts, business torts, real estate, and trademark infringement.
Understanding the importance of giving back to the community, Salman began serving as a coach for Girls on the Run. The experience proved to be so rewarding that Salman began to assist other groups including serving as a board member and president of Friends of the Madison Library committee, serving as a board member for Madison Public Library Foundation, including co-chairing the donor development committee and co-chairing Lunch for Libraries.
Salman’s involvement didn’t stop there. She was instrumental in spearheading Wisconsin’s first Ellevate chapter, a global professional women’s network committed to elevating women through education, inspiration, and opportunity, with a mission of closing the gender gap. She also supports the arts community by serving on the board of directors as treasurer of the Opera for the Young.
She also serves as a member of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee. Salman volunteers her time and talents to Michael Best by leading the firm’s Best Efforts Day and serving as the co-chair Lawyers & Engineers Advancing Diversity (LEAD), an employee resource group to support LGBTQ and racially diverse attorneys and professionals and their allies.
Salman has been recognized on the Wisconsin “Rising Stars” list by Super Lawyers, received the Outstanding Community Service Award in Michael Best’s Litigation Practice Group, and was recognized by the Wisconsin Pro Bono Honor Society.
She earned her J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law and received her B.A. in Political Science from the University of Michigan.
Salman, along with all Association for Women Lawyers’ award recipients, will be honored at the Annual Meeting on September 25th at the Hilton Garden Inn in downtown Milwaukee.
