Michael Best Enhances Privacy & Cybersecurity Offering with New GDPR Tool

The BEST Privacy & Cybersecurity Toolkit provides risk assessments, identifies potential threats and offers solutions to comply with the EU’s upcoming General Data Protection Regulations

MADISON, Wisc. (May 25, 2018) – Michael Best is pleased to announce the launch of the BEST Privacy & Cybersecurity Toolkit, a collaborative project with a global leader in privacy management and software platforms. The toolkit offers a comprehensive privacy mapping aid complete with accountability and organizational ready benchmarks, risk assessment programs, customized interfaces, and compliance kits to help organizations adhere to global data privacy and cybersecurity laws, including the upcoming European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

“Organizations in practically every industry sector are under incredible pressure and scrutiny to ensure they are compliant with GDPR regulations,” said Adrienne Ehrhardt, Chair of Michael Best’s Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice Group. “As companies brace themselves and prepare for GDPR, we have made strategic and deliberate efforts to help our clients protect their most important assets.”

Set to take effect May 25, 2018, GDPR is the legal framework that enforces guidelines for the collection and processing of personal information of individuals within the EU and for businesses who deal with data of residents of those countries. All industries that collect any type of personal data in the EU, including their own employee data are affected.

The launch of this tool coincides with the recent growth of Michael Best’s Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice Group, which has seen the addition of three attorneys over the past two months, including partners Ryan Sulkin and Elizabeth Rogers in Chicago and Austin, respectively, and former advisor in the Office of Cyber Policy at the U.S. Department of Defense, Velvet Johnson in Washington, D.C.

“The caliber and global expertise of our group coupled with the introduction of the BEST Privacy & Cybersecurity Toolkit will help us address, identify and prioritize our client’s strengths, weaknesses and concerns as they relate to data privacy and cybersecurity rules and regulations,” said Elizabeth Rogers, Partner in the firm’s Privacy & Cybersecurity group. “Our goal is not only to help assess whether or not a company is compliant, but to be a trusted advisor to our clients’ needs and challenges.”
