An Overview of the 21st Century Cures Act

In this webinar, attorney Seth Mailhot will provide an overview of the 21st Century Cures Act, which was over two years in the making and will affect a wide swath of the U.S. healthcare industry. Signed into law on December 13, 2016, this complex, bipartisan legislation is intended to advance the research and development of new therapies, diagnostics, and combination products, while also amending HIPAA and providing substantial mental health and Medicare delivery reforms. This presentation will address changes made by the 21st Century Cures Act to the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, including the expediting of drug approvals, the recognition of new drug development tools, such as patient-reported outcomes and surrogate endpoints, changes to the definition of a medical device with regards to software research as well as provision of $4.8 billion in funding over ten years for programs such as the cancer moonshot, BRAIN Initiative, and the Precision Medicine Initiative.
