Michael Best Strategies Welcomes Political Strategist Team in Denver

Campaign and government specialists to join growing regional office

DENVER (Jan. 3, 2017) – Michael Best Strategies LLC has expanded its government affairs group in Denver with the addition of three political and campaign strategists. Jeff Thormodsgaard will serve as senior advisor, Katie Wolf will join as senior associate, and Jenise May as an associate.

"Jeff's track record of creating success for his clients is well-established,” said Ted Kanavas, President of Michael Best Strategies. “We are thrilled to add professionals like Jeff and his team to Michael Best Strategies, and look forward to building on their successful practice in the region."

Thormodsgaard, who prior to joining Strategies, founded and served as president of Precision Policy Group, LLC, the political consulting firm headquartered in Denver. As a dynamic political strategist for almost a decade, he has successfully managed various campaigns, including candidate races, municipal bond initiatives, and defeating statewide ballot measures. Thormodsgaard began his legislative career as an aide for two Alaska State Legislators, with an emphasis on health care and natural resources. After returning to Colorado, he initially worked with the Colorado State Legislature as the aide to the Chair of the Colorado House Education Committee. In his role at Michael Best Strategies, Thormodsgaard will support the regional western state offices and in Washington, D.C., to advance clients’ business objectives through constructive government engagement. He earned his B.S. from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Wolf also joins Strategies from Precision Policy Group, LLC, where she served as a senior associate dedicating her work to full-time lobbying duties building her expertise around key industries, including healthcare, agriculture, and political strategy. In addition to her time at Precision Policy Group, Wolf has also managed state and federal compliance for US Senator from Colorado Michael Bennet’s statewide senate race, and oversaw compliance regulations for congressional and state-level campaigns. As senior associate, Wolf will support a broad range of government relations and lobbying efforts in support of regional and state offices. Wolf received her B.S. from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

May was elected for one term in the Colorado House of Representatives from the 30th District in 2013. During her term, she served on multiple committees including the Finance, Health and Human Services, Amendment 64 Use and Regulation of Marijuana, Joint Budget, and Appropriations committees, the latter two as an elected vice chair. As a representative, May was one of the top advisers in the House and worked on several key initiatives including higher education requirements and funding, establishing a statewide child welfare hotline for abused and neglected children, and reducing business property taxes while still increasing K-12 funding. Prior to her time in the Colorado legislature, May served as the Deputy Director for the Department of Human Services, where she championed state nursing home initiatives, fostered growth and advocated for job retention, and acted as a spokesperson for the department, both with the media and with the state legislature. In her role with Michael Best Strategies, she will draw on her exemplary record in government affairs and as an elected official to identify and develop strategic opportunities.

“Michael Best Strategies’ national and state model, paired with the impressive teams they are assembling, made the choice very attractive for our team,” said Thormodsgaard. “My expertise and connections in D.C., coupled with the experience and dedication of Katie and Jenise, will provide a strong foundation to strengthen and deepen our services to clients in Colorado and surrounding states.”
