As we find ourselves in the midst of the Thanksgiving and holiday time of year, the season of giving — and giving thanks — is upon us.
I was invited to speak at a lunch-and-learn program recently that was sponsored by the The Lakeshore Planned Giving Collaborative. The group is an organization of local charities that have come together to promote the cause of planned giving.
Planned giving is usually described as the thoughtful process of giving to charity, either during life or at death, by means of any number of techniques.
Some of these techniques are simple, and some much more exotic. Most blend tax considerations, personal financial planning objectives and the goals and needs of charities.
