At its June 24, 2009, meeting, the Department of Natural Resources Board approved comprehensive revisions to Wisconsin's shoreland protection rules on a 6-0 vote. The revisions are intended to better protect water quality and habitat, provide more flexibility for property owners and establish standards that are easier to apply. The final rules will now be forwarded to the legislature's natural resources committees for review. If the legislative committees raise no objections during the 30 to 60-day review period, the rules will take effect after publication in the Wisconsin Administrative Register.
