Madison

The Madison office of Michael Best & Friedrich LLP, established in 1973, blends the sophistication of a large firm practice with the congenial atmosphere of a smaller office. The office exhibits an energetic profile and has achieved significant growth and success. In fact, in December 2008, the office was voted "Best Local Law Firm" by the readers of In Business Magazine for the third year in a row. Our Madison clients include high-tech and pharmaceutical companies, corporations, health care entities, venture capitalists and start-ups, governmental agencies and non-profits, educational institutions, as well as high net worth individuals and families.

Michael Best has been committed to the Madison arts community for more than 20 years. Our involvement extends from pro bono legal work, board memberships, underwriting performances and event sponsorships. Most recently, the firm pledged the largest corporate contribution to the Great Performance Campaign, an endowment for the Overture Center's umbrella of arts organizations. Michael Best attorneys serve as board members for eight of the nine resident organizations.

About Madison
As the capital of Wisconsin, Madison boasts a metropolitan population of more than 367,000, making it the state's second largest city. Madison has been recognized for the past several years as one of the "most livable" cities in the nation and was named the number one most livable city in 1996. This distinction was derived from high ratings in areas such as future job growth, clean air and water, good health, good public transportation and high civic involvement.

Madison is also the home of the University of Wisconsin, one of the nation's largest higher education institutions with a student enrollment of more than 40,000. Madison residents and visitors enjoy a professional repertory theater, symphony and art center and a host of activities associated with the University, including athletic and cultural events. The Monona Terrace Community and Convention CenterTM, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, is one of the city's main attractions.

Madison is set among four lakes, and offers diverse recreational activities, including wilderness trails, state parks, golf courses and other outdoor activities. The University of Wisconsin Arboretum is an ideal setting for hiking and cross-country skiing.

With all of these advantages and the sophistication of a larger city, Madison continues to offer a relaxed attitude, making it a refreshing alternative to life in the typical urban setting. It is culturally diverse and offers a variety of neighborhoods, affordable housing, excellent schools and safe streets. When residents seek a change of scenery, the wilderness of rural Wisconsin and the excitement of Chicago are both within driving distance.
