Daniel A. Kaufman

Dan Kaufman is a partner in the Chicago office, Co-Chair of the Class Action/MDL Team and a member of the Labor and Employment Relations and Education Practice Groups, and the Trade Secret Protection and Non-Competition Team. He served on the Management Committee from 2000-2003 and as Managing Partner of the Chicago office from 1996-2000 and from 2005-2010. 

Mr. Kaufman’s practice entails all aspects of employment and business litigation, as well as employment law. He is experienced in class action and multi-party litigation. Mr. Kaufman also has represented educational institutions in a wide variety of matters. He handles cases in state and federal trial and appellate courts and before administrative agencies. He also counsels clients and has conducted workshops on employment issues, including non-competition, non-solicitation, and confidentiality agreements, the hiring and firing of employees, employment issues in business transactions, discrimination and harassment, privacy issues in the workplace, supervising and disciplining employees, wage and hour claims and avoiding litigation.

Prior Work Experience

Mr. Kaufman served as a judicial law clerk on the Michigan Supreme Court for one year after graduating from law school.

In 2010, Mr. Kaufman received an award for excellence in pro bono service from the Judges of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and the Chicago Chapter of the Federal Bar Association. He is acknowledged as an Illinois Leading Lawyer and was recognized since 2006 as an “Illinois Super Lawyer” by Super Lawyers Magazine. Mr. Kaufman was selected as one of “40 Illinois Attorneys Under 40 Years Old to Watch” in 2000 by Law Bulletin Publishing. He also holds an AV® (preeminent/highest) rating from Martindale-Hubbell®.
